Success was in the air last 12 November as the Spell-A-Thon 2024 fostered a spirit of friendly competition and enriched knowledge in the English language.
Spearheaded by Mr. Karl Sevilino, the Council's VP-Internal, the activity featured thirty enthusiastic English majors who tested their skills in spelling complex English words, racing under time pressure.
While some words posed challenges, the participants—proudly dubbed "word wizards"—gave their best effort, keeping in mind the intricate rules of English spelling. In the end, they enjoyed the competition and made new friendships, connecting with fellow majors from different year levels.
Despite its competition format, this activity highlighted the appreciation for complex yet beautiful English words, with the majors taking with them the new learnings. Moreover, it emphasized the power of English knowledge in catapulting one's knowledge to greater heights.
