ENGLISH WEEK 2024 | Speech ni Teach '24 links talent, advocacy

As the Society's guiding words go: "Let your word shape the world."

It was once again an extraordinary moment for students to test their way of words in sync with relevant societal issues during the Speech ni Teach 2024: An Extemporaneous Speech Tilt last 12 November in Room 107.

Thirteen students from BSE-ENG and BSE-EngChi programs joined the competition. Mr. Von Aiken Manalo, the Council's Vice President External, spearheaded the event, which is on its third run since its inception in 2022.

During the activity, students craft a "cheat sheet" for their extemporaneous speech in five minutes. Topics were selected via drawing of lots, and participants delivered their speeches in front of a panel of judges carefully evaluating their answers.

Despite the pressure of the situation, the students effectively addressed various issues within the education sector, many focusing on the role of the English language as a vital tool for education in the 21st century. After the event, judges offered constructive feedback to help the participants improve their speech delivery and organization of their thoughts.

The BSE-ENG Council extends its appreciation to the panel of judges for this activity, namely: Ms. Jaimelyn Manalili-Abarquez, Dr. Jayson Dechavez, and Ms. Rizza Mae Villanueva. Their presence and guidance at the event further proved their commitment to sharing lasting learning with the Majors, bringing their potential to greater heights.
