ENGLISH WEEK 2024 | Majors exchange points in debate competition

    Let's argue. Let's advocate. Let's advance.

These three phrases encapsulated the spirited yet meaningful debate competition titled "Perspectives Unleashed: Debating the World of Education," held on 13 November in Room 107.

Spearheaded by Council President Mr. Ariel Manabat, the event featured sixteen students from various year levels as they projected and defended their respective stands on different issues around the education sector. Each year-level students are awarded one topic to work through.

Participants were divided into two categories: the affirmative and negative sides, with their assigned positions given days in advance to allow time for preparation and research. During the event, each side presented their arguments in front of a panel of judges, composed of fourth-year students currently undergoing on-the-job training at their respective schools.

Ultimately, the competition proved to be a fruitful experience that heightened awareness of issues within the education sector. As President Manabat intended, the exchanges showcased not only the English majors’ ability to deliver cohesive and meaningful speeches but also provided a platform for voices and viewpoints to be expressed in the English language.

The BSE-English Council sends its warmest appreciation to the judges of the event, namely: Ms. Zaira Yamson, Mr. Christian Ani, and Mx. Genesis Conwi, all from BSE-ENG 4A. Their commitment to guidance ensures the success of the event, further bringing the importance of the global language to greater heights, one thought at a time.
